Concerned with head injuries and bruises frequently than ever in the NHL, are questions that the players who played the game years ago would have better handling.

He made his career by long-term damage? Are they at increased risk for symptoms such as dementia due to injuries he suffered in the mirror head?

He could soon be an answer.

The NHL announced Wednesday the Alumni Association has an alliance with one of the world's leading centers of neuroscience, Rotman Research Institute Baycrest in Toronto up to 100 former players sign of changes in mental health to examine the age formed.

The study will include analysis of the brain ex-NHLers detailed cognitive testing and magnetic resonance imaging, a process must have for every participant, every three years to complete.
NHL Alumni Director Mark Napier, whose 12 years in the NHL stints with the Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers, hopes that the test can determine whether former player signs of deteriorating health due to a concussion while playing.

The association called on the morning of Wednesday, and volunteers has already been a number of interested students, including former New York Rangers ended Tough Guy Richard Scott, whose career because of concussion problems seven years ago and 25 years.
Napier, Mark Osborne and Mike Pelyk others are already registered to participate.

Napier never diagnosed with a concussion during his career 767 games, but he now believes he has suffered four or five years and played on through injuries.

It must also be a control group by the test on the former player of the general population to compare.

In head injuries, to disentangle the contribution of genetic factors in health and other aging and brain function is a major challenge, said Baycrest senior scientist Brian Levine.

Napier said the concussion current discussions and concerns of future health is not something that keeps you late at night, but added that he and his colleagues would like more information on the possible connection between the two like.

Theres not a higher percentage of our members who suffer from Alzheimer's or dementia, compared with the general population,  said Napier. Therefore, it is was an important concern. But with all the talk and all that happened, it was a fair way a rule or another.
