Oprah Winfrey And The NBA

http://www.sify.com/sports/
What does Oprah Winfrey have in common with NBA players? Answer: Not sure but consider this.  During a quarter century of her self-titled TV show, Oprah went from humble beginnings to mega-rich, and ended with a last show that was her second largest viewership ever. Every day in America, Oprah was watched by 7.4 million people. The vast majority of viewers were white with a growing cross-cultural international audience.

This year’s NBA playoffs are the most watched in cable history. The vast majority of viewers are white, with most of the players from humble beginnings and black. The players cannot match Oprah’s 7 million viewers a day. But every playoff game, depending on the network, gets 3 – 5 million TV viewers in the US alone. And according to Richard Buchanan, Executive VP and General Counsel of the NBA, the season started with 63 Million fans following them on social media sites, primarily Facebook and Twitter. By the playoffs, the figure increased to 100 million. Also like Oprah, the League’s international business has skyrocketed. The NBA expansion in China and India headline a roster of countries that now causes the NBA to have 15 international offices. Games are available in 46 languages. In China alone, the league has more than 140 employees and is currently negotiating multi-million dollar digital sponsorships and media rights agreements. In fact, the NBA has supporting facts for the conclusion that it is now the second most popular professional sport in the world, right behind what Americans call soccer. While I was vacationing in Hawaii, one of the owners of an NBA team spanned the stunning sunset, leaned over and told me, “We’ll have a team in Europe before you know it.”

What started me down this road was a speech. The speaker said: “Doing this to get rich? Get over it…The one thing standing in the way of happiness …is that sense of entitlement.”

If you only believed talk show sports pundits you might think the entitlement reference was to NBA players. We’ve been brainwashed and brawn-washed into thinking these players are brats. Talking heads have spewed spoiled brat-i-ness for so long one might forget to pay attention to the facts – and hence a more accurate sense of reality. By the way, the above comment was actually made by an Emory Law School professor at commencement to non-dribbling law school grads that are less likely to get a million dollar signing bonus.

Reality is that millions of people hear the talking heads but say nay.  What resonates with them is not branding NBA players as knuckleheads. Rather it’s the realness of players like Derrick Rose – a 21 year old who stood up to accept the NBA’s MVP award as the youngest ever to do so.  He could have taken that opportunity to brandish his own personal greatness. Instead, unrehearsed, he looked only at his mother and softly spoke of what she meant to him – saying he worked harder knowing how hard she worked to get him there.  He ended with “I love you, Mom” in front of millions of TV-viewing macho men who may ridicule such players, but not whisper those same words in the privacy of their parents’ home.  That is the same Derrick Rose that the NBA was smart enough to use for a promotional spot called “NBA Cares”, though it was preciously expensive commercial time during the Eastern Conferences Finals between Miami and Chicago.  Despite the high cost air time, Rose didn’t speak the language of the entitled. In the most plain of English he talked about how players give back and ended by how he was taught “by giving you shall receive”. His sincerity was just as plain to see, and many NBA players give back more than we’ll know from television.

I think, and yes, I want to think, that it’s the sincerity, the unentitled realness that is the plasma for Oprah’s success and the NBA’s increased viewership.  For the NBA, it’s not because of eye-popping on-court performances of a few stars. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and a Hall of Fame list of others had that. Without those stars, there is still a certain connectivity with millions of the more plain spoken among us. The term “plain spoken” is code for those of us who gain exhilaration from seeing extraordinary feats by otherwise ordinary people – the unentitled. As Rose said in the “NBA Cares” spot, “many of us came from neighborhoods in need… we want to take that experience and turn it back into something positive for our community” or words to that effect.
custom nba jerseys
That law professor told the law grads something similar in hopes that her words would resonate with her audience. “You might also have to learn to be a giver, and not a taker. … Givers tend to be happy people, on the whole. Takers are never satisfied. I want you to be satisfied with your professional lives. That’s why I do this for a living. To look back later and say … look at the people I helped.”

Oprah too lives the “give back” philosophy.  And she has succinctly said, “”Turn your wounds into wisdom.”  When I watch the NBA, I see players who in many instances were wounded by being born into a fatherless home and a school system not of their choosing that does not compete with suburban systems. But in well-spoken articulate ways, I hear them speak about doing the right thing, and increasingly I see them growing in the wisdom to do it. I’ve noticed older players mentoring the non-college graduate rookies. As a result, there is a lesser incidence of crimes among those rookies than some other well-known sports.  And after beating on each other all game, I see players from opposing teams hugging and whispering in the ear of their adversary, words not intended for TV.  I suspect these are often words of respect and… wisdom.

The connectivity between Oprah and her fan base is not just about her guests, her on-show gifts, or her wit. And the connectivity with the players is beyond dunks and three pointers. They both resonate realness.  People of ordinary intellect get it, watch it, and share it regardless of race and culture because that intangible “it” is a virtue common to humanity.  This common language defies cultural barriers. Be it China, India, or Indiana, the NBA is growing because of that plasma. So I would not be shocked to see Oprah sitting next to Spike Lee at a Knicks game, or Jack Nicholson at the LA Forum.  More assuredly, I expect to see more fans from China, India, and Indiana watching NBA players.

The Answer: They both draw big audiences for simply being gifted and real.

Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki speaks softly but carries a big game

Dirk Nowitzki takes the microphone out of its stand and holds it with a sly smile on his face, as if he's ready to begin zinging at a roast.

But that's about as exciting as the Dallas Mavericks forward gets. He sinks into a chair on a dais and stares vacantly at the table in front of him while answering reporters' questions with a slightly accented monotone.

Not much had happened 30 minutes earlier, only the Mavericks' second-ever trip to the NBA Finals in the franchise's 31-year existence.

Nowitzki's deceptive, though. It's too clichéd to say he's a man of actions, not words, as Dallas begins the NBA Finals on Tuesday against the Miami Heat.

Before judging Nowitzki, you'd have to experience the action part in person on a night before one of their playoff games.

He will arrive at a quiet arena and soon have a ball in hand. No shot clock, no defenders, no All-Star votes or championship trophies to be earned that particular night.

"He constantly works on his game," Dallas Coach Rick Carlisle said. "Look, he shoots every night during the playoffs so he keeps things tuned up."

Then Carlisle pauses.

"He's really into winning."

Winning a championship, however, is the last thing left to accomplish in a 13-year career that's been on a strong enough uptick the last six weeks to draw comparisons to the sacred Larry Bird.

Nowitzki has been sublime since the playoffs began, averaging 28.4 points, shooting an identical 52% from two-point and three-point range, and missing only 10 of 140 free throws (93% accuracy).

He's a little down on himself for his rebounding (7.5 a game), but it's hard to criticize anybody who averaged 25 points in a sweep of the Lakers and 32 points against the supposedly speedier Oklahoma City Thunder.

And to think people wondered about him at the midpoint of the season after a mysterious injury sidelined him for three weeks. It was officially called a sprained right knee, but it seemed more than that, costing him more games (nine) than he'd ever missed in his career for an injury.

He came back slowly, dragging his leg behind him and putting together a strange string of games in February, including a 12-point effort against Cleveland followed by 10 points against Sacramento.

Nowitzki, who turns 33 in a few weeks, is definitely back, trailing compliments behind him in his remarkable postseason run.

"I don't think no one can singlehandedly stop Dirk," said Miami forward LeBron James. "He's a shot maker, one of the best shot makers we've ever had in this league. It looks like a bad shot if you don't know basketball or you don't know his game — one-legged fade-aways off the glass and pull-up jumpers off the dribble, pump fake, pump fake, fade-away. Things like that."

Things that have been especially notable in the playoffs.

Nowitzki practically ended Oklahoma City's hopes with his Game 4 effort in the Western Conference finals. He had 12 points in the final 3 minutes 15 seconds, including a pair of off-balance, up-and-under moves as Dallas came back from a 15-point deficit to win in overtime.

"I thought he was good . . . now he's phenomenal," Miami guard Dwyane Wade said. "Obviously, the shot-making ability is one of the best this league has seen. But I think what he's gotten better at is taking over games in the fourth quarter. It seems like he's taking more shots or he's made a bigger impact. I think he's a hungrier player and even a more efficient player than in '06."

That's a time and place Nowitzki doesn't like to talk about.

Dallas had a 2-0 series lead on Miami in the 2006 Finals and led by 13 late in Game 3 before completely collapsing and somehow losing four consecutive games.

"I almost felt like we had unfinished business after '06," Nowitzki said. "We're here again at the big stage. Hopefully, we can turn it around this year and finish strong."

Only Nowitzki and Jason Terry remain from that Dallas team. Wade and Udonis Haslem are the only ones still with Miami.

This collection of Mavericks seems more balanced than that one.

"It's tough to double [Nowitzki] because they have so many great shooters around him," Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant grumbled after being eliminated. "They have a great team."

It might be enough to get that first elusive title for Nowitzki. If that happens, it's easy to foresee his words catching up to his actions.

Mark Cuban's quiet time goes on, to Mavs' delight

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport
Mark Cuban's quiet time continues.
Now that they've gotten used to it, the Dallas Mavericks kind of like it this way.
"It's fine with me," Dirk Nowitzki said. "It should be all about the players."
The Mavs have roared into the NBA finals with Cuban taking the traditional, low-profile role of most team owners. Of course, Cuban has never been like most team owners, making himself part of the story pretty much from the day he went from buying season tickets to buying the club.
He's racked up more than $1 million in fines over his 11-year tenure, mostly for outspoken comments — like berating the officials during the 2006 NBA finals in Miami, where his team returns for Game 1 on Monday night.
"Mark's a smart guy, one of the smartest I've ever been around," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "Like all of us, he has great humility and respect for the position that we're in right now. We're all doing everything we can to put ourselves in the best possible position to do well."
Cuban's silence began after Dallas won its first-round series against Portland. The Mavs are 9-1 since, so why mess with a good thing?
"Mark is a very vocal guy," Jason Kidd said. "He's going to say what he wants to say at the right time, but I think he's been a little been quiet during this playoff run."

Just to be clear, this is only a media silence. He chitchats with reporters, but has made only a few innocuous comments on the record. He has also remained active on Twitter, tweeting "Go Mavs" a few hours before every game. He may have even fired off a few e-mails to David Stern.
The emphasis is that Cuban is avoiding the spotlight. The only exception was to accept the Western Conference trophy. His mainly thanked the crowd, then offered up the rallying cry, "We ain't done yet."
Cuban refuses to explain why he's taken this tact. If anyone in the organization knows the story, they're not saying.
Heat forward Udonis Haslem, one of two holdovers from the '06 Miami team, offered his speculation: "It's five years ago and he's probably learned from that experience. He's moved on and he just wants this team to have the best opportunity to win."
___
SPO'S POPULARITY: The Heat broadcast department has been running live pregame, halftime and postgame shows on the team's official website during the playoffs, generating about 500,000 distinct hits so far and with growing numbers as the playoffs go deeper.
Most of those hits come from the United States, of course.
The nation logging on to Heat.com second-most? The Philippines.
That might sound surprising at first, but there's a very good reason for Filipino interest.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is extremely proud of his Filipino heritage, and has a huge following in his mother's homeland. He visited there in July 2009 — his first trip there since being a toddler — and plans to go back sometime this summer.
Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom rank third, fourth and fifth as far as international clickers onto the Heat webcasts. Germany is sixth — a number that might rise during these finals, given the immense popularity of Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki in his homeland.

John Klein: Thunder not waiting for lightning in a bottle

http://www.sikids.com/
The opportunity for Kevin Durant to lead the Thunder into the NBA finals and perhaps a championship may not be as long and as assured as some believe.

Oklahoma City has terrific young players and a coach that pushed most of the right buttons.

The Thunder reached the NBA Western Conference Finals, finally losing the series to Dallas in five games, with players that should get better with experience.

If so, next year Oklahoma City will again be a contender in the NBA Western Conference.

Yet, there are no guarantees. Just because you are young and good one year does not automatically mean you'll be even better the next season.

Everything changes every season.

The schedule changes. The chemistry, regardless of how many of the same players remain in place, changes.

Injuries, free agency and other teams can change how a season plays out.

This was a perfect storm for the Thunder. Oklahoma City did not have to contend with the Los Angeles Lakers or San Antonio Spurs. Both suffered rare quick exits in the playoffs.

Do you really believe the Lakers and Spurs are going to remain bad?

Sure, it could happen. Age is starting to bring San Antonio and Los Angeles back to the pack.

Still, it is hard to imagine the Lakers and Spurs, two of the top organizations in the NBA, not getting back to a level to contend pretty quick.

Plus, there are other franchises, like Dallas and Houston, that aren't likely to stand still.

What about Memphis? It took OKC seven games to knock out the Grizzlies.

How long Oklahoma City can keep its young stars together, and how moves impact the team, may depend on the future labor agreement.

Still, despite all of the factors, there are plenty of reasons for optimism.

"We're no different than 29 other teams in this league," said Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks in a post-game press conference. "We want to win a championship. We respect the process that it takes to win one. Our guys do the same thing. They respect the heck out of the game.
 cheap custom jerseys
"I don't know how soon we were going to get there but I can tell you this: that guys are not going to hope to get there. They're going to work to get there. They're focused on hitting every day on the practice floor as a day of improvement, a day of work. We have a good future if we continue to keep our mindset in the right place."

The Thunder won 55 games in the regular season. It won two playoff series. It went five games deep into a conference championship series.

This is obviously a good team. But, in the NBA, fame can float away just as quick.

Everybody has good players. There are teams that just need a role player here or there.

The Thunder knows it'll have to get better to move further in the playoffs.

"It's a very good year," said Brooks. "It's a year I'm proud of as a coach.

"But, we'll have to get better, including myself. I will evaluate myself and work this summer to get better going into next year. And, I expect the same out of all of our guys."

Most believe the Thunder will go as far as Durant will take them. Yes, Oklahoma City has a fine group of core players to go around Durant.

Russell Westbrook, who took some heat from the media during the playoffs, developed into an NBA all-star this season. James Harden blossomed into a possible star.

The Thunder has a handful of very nice role players.

Westbrook needs to become better in delivering passes to players, something that should come with experience and age.

Durant may be the league's best pure scorer but many believe he needs to become stronger to take advantage of his skills on the interior.

And, don't forget Brooks will become better organized as a coach. Some of his late-game decisions in the playoffs were questionable.

Yet, this is a very good season for Oklahoma City. Actually, it was terrific.

That doesn't automatically mean the Thunder will be better next year.

But, it leaves Oklahomans believing more NBA glory may be coming this way.

"Paying attention to details and things like that win you championships," said Durant. "That's what a good team like Dallas did and that's one thing we continue to work on.

"It's tough right now but I'm excited about what the future holds for us."

NBA Labor Negotiations Fouled Up by GC's Sudden Death?

 http://www.sify.com/sports/
The unexpected death last week of the National Basketball Players Association's general counsel raises some questions about how his passing might affect ongoing labor negotiations between the union and the league.

Gary Hall, 67, died in his sleep May 16, apparently from natural causes. Hall was a key negotiator in the National Basketball Association's ongoing negotiations to renew its labor contract with players. The agreement expires June 30.

The players union put on a full-court press Tuesday, filing a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board that accuses the league of failing to negotiate in good faith. It was widely reported that the union blames the NBA for engaging in practices intended to provoke the first lockout since the 1998-99 season.

In its complaint, the players union claimed the league has made "grossly regressive contract demands," failing to provide the necessary financial data to justify payment reductions, and "engaging in classic take-it-or-leave-it" bargaining."

The league has denied the claims. The NBA has said that despite soaring ticket sales it is projected to lose $300 million this season. In order to keep costs down, the league is calling for big changes to the collective bargaining agreement-including a hard salary cap for players, a reduction in future salaries, and shorter contracts.

Jeffrey Kessler, a partner with Dewey & LeBoeuf who serves as outside counsel to the union, said in an e-mail to CorpCounsel.com: "Gary was a key member of the union's bargaining team, a trusted advisor to [NBPA Executive Director] Billy Hunter, and a good friend."

To Kessler's knowledge, the union has yet to name an interim GC to replace Hall. A spokesperson for the NBPA did not respond to calls seeking comment.

Kessler said that Hall had an excellent relationship with the league. "He will be missed by all," said Kessler, "but we will re-dedicate ourselves to getting a fair deal for the players, which is the best tribute we can pay to him."

Both sides are to engage in a formal bargaining session during the NBA finals.

In an interview with ESPN sportswriter Chris Sheridan, league deputy commissioner Adam Silver said, "I think the loss of Gary gives us all a sense of perspective..., and I think it will cause us to redouble our efforts in terms of trying to get a deal done by the deadline."
custom nba jerseys
Sheridan wrote that the dynamics of the league's labor discussions were irrevocably changed by the unexpected death of Hall. "Hall was Hunter's right-hand man, the person commissioner David Stern and deputy commissioner Adam Silver often used as a vehicle to convey certain thoughts and ideas to Hunter, union president Derek Fisher and their lead attorneys," wrote Sheridan.

The NBA is not the only sports organization for which in-house counsel is making news right now. The GC for the National Football League is taking a leading role in pushing to reach a new gridiron collective bargaining agreement. The Indianapolis Star reports that NFL general counsel Jeff Pash has encouraged owners and players to resolve their own problems and not to rely on a judge to do it for them.

The best NBA players, who were born in Washington DC

  http://www.sify.com/sports/

These are the best NBA players, who were born in Washington DC, the nation's capital. To date a total of 66 players who were born in Washington DC
come to play in the NBA. Three players from the nation's capital have been included in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
A player on the list is one of the best players in the NBA today. He is still alive in NBA playoffs in 2011, although he and his team are now fighting for her life.

One of the players on this list played college basketball at the college for my favorite team, the Syracuse Orange. I have achieved the players for their career average in the NBA. The biggest player in the Washington DC is 11, Sherman Douglas. The general also at Syracuse University and continued to play in the NBA for a few seasons with my favorite team play the New Jersey Nets.

Douglas played 12 years in the NBA with an average of 11.0 points and 5.9 assists per game. He lost only what NBA players list.Best born in Washington DC

Elgin Baylor was 16th in Washington DC Born September 1934. He went to Seattle University for two years in which he lost an average of 31.2 points and 19.8 rebounds per game and led to the final of the NCAA Championship in 1958, of Kentucky. Despite the loss of Baylor was named MVP of the tournament.

Elgin Baylor then played 14 years in the NBA, and went with the highest score, on average, fourth in NBA history at 27.4 points per game. Also, on average 13.5 rebounds per game. Baylor scored 71 points in a game in 1960, which was the record at the time, and today is the eighth highest total score.

In the playoffs, Elgin Baylor, an average of 27.04 points per game, which is the sixth largest highest total in NBA history. Baylor scored 61 points in an NBA finals game in 1962, which is the highest ever in the finals, the second highest sum of the (Michael Jordan is the first at 63) ever for a playoff game.

Kevin Durant was 29th in Washington DC Born September 1988. It was for a season at the University of Texas, where he average 25.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. The Seattle SuperSonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder) Durant was the second choice in the 2007 NBA Draft.

Kevin Durant has already won two scoring titles in four years in the NBA. His career average of 25.9 points scored per game is the ninth-best in NBA history. So far in his career in the playoffs, Kevin Durant is an average of 27.9 points per game. This is the sixth highest total in NBA history, but not as many playoff games to play, officially qualify for the list.

While Kevin Durant average of 29.3 points per game in four games in the conference final in 2011, Oklahoma City Thunder of the way the Dallas Mavericks, three games to one. The Thunder squandered a lead of 15 points with five minutes and lost in overtime, 112-105, for the Mavs in the fourth game. The erratic play of Russell Westbrook (Notes) (34.7% of the target field in the show) is the killing of thunder.

Adrian Dantley was in Washington DC, 28 Born in February 1956. Dantley average of 25.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game at Notre Dame 1974-1976. NBA Draft 2011: What Charles Jenkins selection by the New York Knicks

It is sure to say something to an NBA team in the development of a boy at home. After an increase in the same area is the possibility of a direct connection with the team and their city and their fans.

The City of New York, passionate, full of Knicks fans is no different.

In the past, the fans heart broken when the local hero, who dodged the draft. They were devastated when the Knicks narrowly missed Speedy Claxton Hofstra, where he was selected by the 76ers with 20 total of only two teams in his hometown in the rookie draft in 2000.
Although the accident was in the hands of all, always much after the Knicks in St. John's University's own Ron Artest (Defensive Player of the Year) were injured last year in the 1999 draft.

Although the Brooklyn native Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks reached the time could be reached, the team will have the opportunity to redeem himself again through the draft next month as Hofstra Charles Jenkins.

Jenkins, a bit of an escort is different, even from the Hofstra in schools all time leading scorer, broke the record with Claxton. On the other hand, rose as the first athlete Hofstra, that his number retired by the school if he really could not bear.

Although it certainly has won many awards, could school background Jenkins small project you hurt your chances. It may be out of reach for the Knicks to the 17th Pick in this year's draft have, as he draws the interest of teams that are at the end of 15 first-round pick climax.
That is, the forms Jenkins could help the Knicks are endless. Although he was an average of 4.8 assists during his senior year, the Knicks probably Jenkins as a strong hold and shoot option. The players like Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony can get the ball, so it is important that the Knicks have players on the field, you can use the ball with ease.

It is also worth mentioning Toney Douglas Billups started under his wing during his first season as a Knick and has also spent time in the off-season working with the preparation of the outlook for the project. If the Knicks are interested in casting of Jenkins in a more traditional basis, would certainly facilitate the transition Billups.

However, Jenkins was actually off against the likes of Douglas and Marcus Thornton and could certainly have the bank come to a similar spark as they do. There is also a decent defender, and his aggressiveness with the ball may also be a better choice than the two fields Landry training camp ahead.

Given the success of the camp, there is no doubt coach Mike Dantonio, who often played smaller formations, would be no problem inserting Jenkins in the starting lineup have when the right person. Besides the search for a goalkeeper catching and shooting, the Knicks appear to encourage more mature outlook, the time at school, such as spent by the selection of fields and Andy Rautins demonstrated.
While Jenkins is one of the guards in the recruitment, large males and perspectives available to do a bit of a question mark at the No. 17 selection. It is imperative that its people, while a strong impression in interviews and pre-draft meetings.

Regardless of whether or not it is perceived as a series, there is no doubt the selection of Jenkins from the Knicks would be celebrated by his fans what.
It is rare that fans of the Knicks in this project in a position, a passion for a player who should be promoting with abundance. As it is, Jenkins is now gaining ground that the maintenance of the city, after the ceremonial field during a Mets game last week.

Jenkins said he grew up as a Knicks fan of the show on television with his father, and theres no doubt the fans of today who appreciate the opportunity to see one of the local favorites, to keep a smooth transition of the university at home to begin his professional career in orange and blue.

Demetri McCamey eyes first round

 http://sports.espn.go.com/

Former Illinois guard Demetri McCamey should be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft 23rd June

McCamey, in the camp of the NBA Draft ATTACK Athletics in Chicago is participating this week, worked individually for the Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards, and has a training for 31 May with the Bulls in Chicago planned. The New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers have also expressed interest in him.

I think he should in the first round and that's my goal,  said McCamey.  It's something that I be very proud if I would get at night project.  McCamey to training camp before the draft, the former NBA coach Bob Hill, after the screening of McCamey. Hill thought he knew what he was at the time McCamey to San Antonio last month to work, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that McCamey can raise and finish with authority.

It is important that the owner when they are in the painted surface high enough to compete with the big,  said Hill.  He has this ability.

This new dimension to the game in order to McCamey go his size, movement, shot better than average, creating an open game on the pitch and the ability of his teammates, Hill administrators McCamey generally believed enough taken to impress the NBA in the first be round.

Today, individual training is very important, where it will be added to the project,  said Hill.  There is a first-round pick will be. I think if you go through the process and make their individual training plans, a first-round pick will be.

McCamey, averaging 14.8 points, 6.1 assists and 3.4 rebounds last season, an explosive sometimes has shown throughout his career, but often settled for mid-range jumpers and 3-points. During his last year, 44.5 percent of the shots from 3-point line and averaged just 3.7 free throws per game.

McCamey said his new burst of speed is due to the recent loss of weight and space allows NBA game. It was almost 10 pounds since the season ended in Illinois in March and now weighs 198 pounds.

Since the heat is crazy in San Antonio, I have lost a lot of weight,  said McCamey.  The goal was [lbs.] 200-203 I am more and faster. When I began the last season, I was at 203 and 205, then I went up to 210th, you can feel the weight mainly minutes of the game, such as I was at the University of Illinois. Take one to tear on his body.

Hill McCamey dare look at a current player in the NBA, but he says he sees Chauncey Billups on the subject.

I said the other day that I am a big fan of Chauncey Billups,  said Hill.  I think he was the leader prototype. There was not much that he could do. I think it is a little larger than Demetri, Demetri, but it can be like a little Chauncey. I saw Demetri College. It was great, the Execute Pause, press the offense, good decisions during the public hearing, shoot and shoot can.'s  good. I think his 3-point range is more comfortable with time in the NBA.

McCamey Last year, the Illini a 20-14 overall and 9-9 in the Big Ten and won the second round of the NCAA tournament with Kansas.

Have for me, the most wins we could,  said McCamey.  But like last season [2009-10] and not the tournament and with that disappointment, returned to competition this year and win a game, it's a successful season for me. I do not have my team. I think it best for the year. I think I have my work on this issue. I think it was a success, even though we have ups and downs experienced.

Raptors fall to fifth place in the NBA Lottery

  http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport

In its draft lottery first as CEO of the Toronto Raptors Bryan Colangelo has been lucky.

His team jumped from the fifth to first place.
In the draft lottery immediately after the signing of his second contract with the team Colangelo was not so lucky.

Instead of skipping the fifth, the team was there.
Raptors last night has the best chance of the third preliminary examination climb, but the Cleveland Cavaliers landed the selection with the Raptors at home picking fifth. That means no shot at Duke in the first year point guard Kyrie Irving or the second before Derrick Williams Arizona in a trade restriction.

If you look at the project by the two is rather short, Colangelo said in a conference call after the lottery. No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, I'm not sure Teresa difference. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder in this situation.

The Cavaliers had the second best chance in the draft, but has actually declined in the fourth slot. But the choice they acquired from the Clippers in Los Angeles at the trade fair period, split session, the ball was kind of tennis that won.

Irving and Williams will be safe. Moreover, it is just different degrees of potential, with a different degree of risk.

NBA Playoffs Bulls-Heat Game 1: Defence Derrick

 http://www.cbssports.com/

We hear from the mold. Derrick Rose is averaging over 20 points per game this series, and the only reason that I am a little is that the very slow pace of the series, because the defense get the number of options. Rose is not only an almost irresistible force of nature, which seems to correspond to the largest opportunities, it is also a top player with the ball in his hands the whole time. The question is not how hes going gate 25 or more, as many of his recordings hes need to get there.

That is, do not accept you can trample the roses if you have something to do. The Heat showed it to him several looks to throw. I can not Chalmers, or Wade, or LeBron will be a little bit of everything. The trick is to try to flee, to get all the points and planes, just much more difficult than to take the wear of their efficacy and what you can do.
The ideal scenario to play was Mario Chalmers is using on the side of a wing defender, then a final turn down a pink weakside big challenge on the edge and try more force. It worked best game in the series against Rose, requiring a 15 you lose 24 shots. In this game, Erick Dampier spent much time on the field a pink challenge. Dampier does not have the time in the playoffs with Joel Anthony, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Juwan Howard to the lion's share in the middle had to do. Joel Anthony has no width or height is initially the same way challenge Ilgauskas and limited mobility than Dampier. Yes, I can now listen to your jokes. It is a matter of degree.

The temptation is to check with Wade and James Rose, but to create a. exhausted his key players on defense when you need it so badly in the attack and 2 the risk of contamination, and 3 Waste and help the defenders. Seeing the two boys, time for Rose, but the truth is Rose too fast for any of them. Everyone can intervene to combat dribbling or trying to pull a load, or if nothing else, the strength of the recovery of crime baba restore.

But the biggest problem with Teresa offer much help. is lost in many roses that float if the defense on either the wing or floor required, it sets both the position and trajectory of the ball to land directly on a hand on the offensive glass Bulls. It's not just the first blow that hurts the chances of his second chance. That is, can survive as a mediocre offense and the Bulls, if Derrick Rose is not in production.
custom nfl jerseys
The key here is to fill Rosas. If you start to fall, the song of the heat under the screen, opening the border with Rose. Rose is so fast, it seems that the edge in a straight line in the basket. This means that the scores and errors and points, or dump-offs. The other important factor is that the Bulls outside shooters.
The hot wings outside of Kyle Korver, Keith Bogans and played over and dare them to fight. If you can not take the defense of the Rose will be easier. Derrick Rose Bulls take the offensive on his back every night. It must ask for help to beat the heat.

2011 NBA Draft Lottery: Lottery 'Winner' Grand Prix will not fall this year

 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport

2011 NBA Draft Lottery held this Tuesday 17 May salivating Although generally the teams the opportunity to take firing the first round this year has a relatively small class.

Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Derrick Rose and Tim Duncan are among the first decisions that have become icons of basketball. They changed the culture of the team and brought their own relevant franchises.

In 2009 it was clear, Blake Griffin was the only choice for all teams Draft Lottery this year. The representative of the Clippers in the lottery, even wore a jacket with the number of Griffin lapel.
The class this year has the potential to be used.
Kyrie Irving is probably as the  price  lottery this year, but there are warning signs seriously. The injury he had and a great experience at the university level.

Maybe the second coming of Chris Paul, but the formulation of a number of general nature is an excellent investment. What if your injuries will continue to the next level?

With Blake Griffin or John Wall, there's really no comparison. But your first bushel of money will be delivered. While advertising may not be the same, the contract is used in the past year with the first overall win selection as a measure to try this year.
Essentially, teams will be more money for a minor role. This is not the year to choose first.

Here is a good card to get a little perspective on money spent in the NBA rookie, in terms of which they are selected. Go ahead and ignore the comparisons in the NFL, for all intensive purposes.

You can see that the number one overall selection Blake Griffin $ 16,000,000 in guaranteed money wins, while the number eight draft pick Jordan Hill wins $ 8 million in guaranteed money.

Although it seems reasonable and logical for the class of 2009 project can not be the case for the class of 2011 project.

Assuming that Irving is first in general, he could also see double the amount guaranteed, the eighth overall selection. The period between Irving and say, Marcus Morris, important?

Morris has a more detailed work and dramatically improve every year he was in college. Irving certainly has more upside, but Morris can be considered a safer choice.
 custom hockey jerseys
Even if you do not agree, it is impossible not to compare the opportunity cost of the election for the first time in the class of relatively low this year. Irving may be affected will be players, but he has to go a long way to justify if the money we gave him.

The winner Draft Lottery this year you can earn a financial meltdown, but as a savior of the franchise.

NBA Playoffs 2011: How the Youth Movement Is Taking over the NBA

http://www.nfl.com/
Youth. One can not teach. You can not keep. But all the equipment you need.

Who would have thought at the beginning of last season, neither the Lakers, San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics, but the Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls and the Oklahoma City Thunder?  For years, the National Basketball Association was the idea that veterans know how to win and who can in turn was built up in the playoffs again. This is the mentality of the Lakers and Celtics all season, to the deformation of the regular season ready to come on time in the playoffs can be. Either.
The league has changed. No more grind games in midfield, but the transition and high-flying aerial attack is the future. The league is now in a new wave of players who are fast and athletic and 40 minutes to play at an unprecedented level.
The playoffs are led by young stars and the brightest in the league, led by the Chicago Bulls, Derrick Rose. The League Most Valuable Player today, Rose continued her outstanding play in the playoffs average of 30 points per game (PPG) and led the Bulls to a part of the conference finals.

Rose was one of the most dangerous leader in the league and changed the perception of prototype owners. He flies high, strong and can finish the edge with the best of them in the league. Leading the Bulls in the playoffs, he took on the mentality of adult veterans, while learning on the job in just 22 years.

His biggest test in the conference finals against the East team in South Beach and the new  Big Three  of LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh will be. This is your finest hour before the league's most renowned stars. A series based on each game and the game plan is easy to test for the heat to stop Derrick Rose.

Each player has a moment that defines them as a young player, the rose is an opportunity to shine under the lights and faded like any other young players. Remember, LeBron James 29 of his last 30 playoff teams scored in 2007 against the Detroit Pistons, Rose must overcome something similar to the Giant in South Beach.

The West closed last night Oklahoma City Thunder Memphis Grizzlies led the upset of Kevin Durant in its fourth year of retirement from the University of Texas. While the most prolific scorer in the league title this year was won by the score of 27.7 PPG. Russell Westbrook and he has this young team Thunder in the final game of the Western Conference team against the Dallas Mavericks led veteran expert.

Durant and Westbrook were the presentation of the playoffs in the West that continues to show the youth that is worth the experience. On Monday evening three times overtime thriller Westbrook led the team in the first two extensions and Durant finished the game from the third extension.

Westbrook, that Rose is an explosive guard who at a rate that Full Tilt played all the time. Westbrook and Durant are the new version of epochs Derek Fisher and Kobe Bryant. Once considered the largest, most in the NBA Kobe a back seat, the young stars of the league has taken over.
 custom nba jerseys

The last decades of the biggest players are the players in teams from oldies to the playoffs Clock from home on vacation in the Caribbean.
The San Antonio Spurs, Tim Duncan and Tony Parker and the Lakers with Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher all grew up watching him go bye.

The young duo Durant and Westbrook in the Western Conference and Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah in the Eastern Conference has taken a central place in the year 2011 playoffs.

If this year's playoffs have shown us anything, old hands are not suit for the young and athletic teams. For years, experts have said that they gain a previous experience in the playoffs and if this season proved anything, this experience is overrated.

NBA: Heat finally nearing completion

 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport

After a season of clutch failures, questions about Chris Bosh, by the speech that just are not mentally focused enough to win the title, Miami simply close all be affected.
LeBron James closed. His latest coup was a failure, he recovered and was brought Chris Bosh. Apart from that? James nailed a huge base in three of Paul Pierce in a corridor, then a key position for a dunk made Bosh. He was a monster down the track, despite a turnover of keys, the door to a winner Pierce, who opens missed.

Heat sealed. And they can be another superpower NBA have closed. The Celtics had superior mental equipment seemed right in the last regular season meeting between the two. And after Game 3 of the crisis, there was a feeling that was back the heat of the regular season, perhaps. But the heat and wash it all again the Celtics looked like a team that was too old to work with the triad.

mental focus and intensity were greatest weakness in the heat of the regular season. But further strengthened, if necessary, the Celtics were known. With a 3-1 lead in the series, the heat seems clearly the better team.

Public opinion means LeBron can rely on no one to give credit. But it should be noted that he and Paul Pierce had another game in an epic career. They came and went at each other all night, and at the end Pierce missed a bridge from the left elbow instead of your favorite place, right. There was a lack of communication in the game, Pierce and the screen never came. James stayed with Pierce and missed the winning goal. Meanwhile, James was at full speed, aggression.

Heat always had talent. Obviously. But he never looked like a strong team mentally. But Monday night, which may have been through the baptism of fire they needed. Closed.

And finally, are placed in a position to the ghosts that have haunted the Celtics bed.

Today, the NBA focus more on giving than receiving

 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport

An NBA player is not the simple life. Distractions off the field and injuries derailed a career on the field for many players.
Teams today, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, consider a player character and physical attributes. Some may think that the players of today may be different than the past, but if the hardware has changed, said Scott Brooks, that the main challenges of being an NBA player does not.

Brooks, Thunder head coach, said he thinks the NBA has changed culture, apart from music. Brooks, 45, former NBA player,  said Michael Jackson and Prince songs sounded in games when he played in the league, compared to, say, rapper Eminem in those days. What has not changed is the good players who compete in the NBA,  said Brooks.
And most of them found with teams across the country, many working in the community,  he said.
The requirement not only a large organization in the field, but off the field, you must return to their communities. Our organization is excellent in this area,  said Brooks.
MORE NBA player meanwhile, the brightest star in the Oklahoma City Thunder, Kevin Durant, a newcomer to the league, said he has seen an evolution in the league.
Durant, 22, said he could only have entered the NBA at the venerable age of 18 years, but hes always been in the league by far, waiting for his chance in the big box ring.
He said that the NBA culture has changed, because young people could always much smarter than it has in years. Many depend not only play basketball, but to experience things in their lives.
You know, basketball is not last forever, because what you are doing things to make streets and roads, to build other businesses,  said Durant.
Guys want more than the NBA players.Make you will not mistake the affable while does not mean he takes the opportunity of course, a game he loves in front of thousands of people per million to play.
No, the basketball star said that the players know that the development of other aspects of their lives is as important as their skills in this area.
HERE is the standard high Steve Davis, associate minister of Mount Olive Baptist Church has grown, he served as the Hornets in New Orleans Kaplan, when the NBA franchise your temporary district court in Oklahoma City. Do not think the culture has changed the NBA, but he believes the NBA is putting more weight helps on things like the NBA Cares initiative, which reflect a positive image of the league.
Davis, 40, said he also thinks that the media, the negative impact at a time when there have been some funny business discussed at the back to back.
He said that the league has always been people and their decisions. No one should make generalizations about the entire league on the basis of one or two players at any time,  said Davis.
He said that the league full of good players like Durant and Hornets Chris Paul to the position they are seen in more than themselves.
Therefore, I am glad to see Durant Oklahoma bin. He represents the state as well. One of the things we do in our city, the character folks.Durants teammates,  said Nick Collison, 31, does not he, a big change in the culture of the league. He said that the dynamics of the different organizations with regard to the standards of the players put more important than ever.

Here the standard is very high. You expect a lot of us on the ground, but also in terms of character, Collison said of the storm.
You get people you can live it up, think that.Collison said when he was hired as a player in the NBA in 2003 were more concerned with external things, but grew up a better job to put things in perspective. He said he helps the young players to do the same.
I just tried to use the experience I had, and I learned things. I tried to move my best,  said Collison.
FOR YOU AND THAT'S LIFE, THE CHOSEFormer player in the NBA, and said the Oklahoma State Leader Desmond Mason, he saw the culture of the NBA as a positive because there is more emphasis on supporting communities.
That's where I think the culture has changed. This does not mean you have not 10 years ago, but there are now more important influence on communities outside the United States,  said Mason.

League says it is overwhelming when he was the finale with the Seattle SuperSonics. He said he knew what it was, large crowds because of his experience in college play, but the money involved in the participation of the NBA, was that things were much more stressful.
Mason, 33, says his parents have had their share of problems in early childhood, but found a solution to their problems by the Lord.
He said he tried, he and his brothers a solid foundation. He said that means a very strict upbringing led in its mature form of thinking, when he began to literally play in the majors at 22
Mason said, responsible for finance, media, lifestyle are noise problems are much higher if an NBA player makes a mistake.
They can cause harm may be harming your family, you can destroy your reputation, everything within a single decision,  he said.
Mason said that the reason to see veteran NBA players to take younger players under his wing, as he liked.
And there are more opportunities to come alongside the young basketball players: the league is getting younger,  he said.
Kevin (Durant) was 18 Russell (Westbrook) was 18th James Harden (Oklahoma City Thunder) was 20 Jeff Green was 20 We have one of the youngest teams in the NBA. If you are looking for a veteran team that could look only 26 or 27 friends, how do I do? Mason said.
Mason said the good news is that experienced players willing to help young players and some young men are seeking advice.
Somehow goes hand.As Durant, the tires star Young said he deals with all the changes in his life because he solved only part of the league itself was.
Part of what it means to read the Bible every day (He's now in the book of Matthew, for that matter) as a way to stay in contact with the Lord.
We have to stay at their morals and values 鈥嬧€媋nd from there,  he said.

Sports Media: Jeff Van Gundy, a joy, a spokesman for the NBA

 http://www.usatoday.com/sports/default.htm

If the heat Celtics Game 3 of the series Saturday night on ABC return, theres no one knows what will come out of Jeff Van Gundy mouth.
How long Mark, co-Jackson, said the analyst, and I have something insensitive to your thoughts. In crazy the last two weeks of broadcasts of the NBA uses, spoke Van Gundy about the real marriage (that was about to crack grief), asked Jackson ranks the rapper Clock a game in the series of thermal and Celtics fans jokingly branded cowards for not absorb heat Dwyane Wade, as he stands on the track a passport Mario Chalmers jumped.
And none of this was the least surprising that happen Van Gundy could discuss pick-and-roll, a second for the next Tootsie Rolls.
Externally, strictly in their behavior as a coach, Van Gundy, intellectual, smart and original and unique as a TV personality a few that can be mixed with reflections extravagant sent incisive analysis.
It is one of the top of my head, Van Gundy said by telephone this week. Some people like some people dont. The nervous, headstrong exchange with Mark is not something planned. I would do with him from the air. We see a similar situation and the particular things that make things a little differently. I try to speak my mind and his outspoken opinions Gundy fair.Van voice, without hesitation. When Paul Pierce could have been ejected from a game after a verbal provocation (his second technical foul), protested Van Gundy, there is nothing that he said to be coming out. They destroy the end of this game! If you agree with him or not, Van Gundy at least makes you think. Questions mentioned by the coaches to almost automatically remove players who make two mistakes in the first quarter.
Despite the sometimes legislates otherwise NBA, Van Gundy called the league, much higher penalty for the player who starts a fight, rather than the defendant.
And do not understand why we suspend children for a full game, Van Gundy said. Why child sings a quarter or a half a game to be suspended? You get off the bench and field, the suspension of the game Thatsit. hurt someone, Thatsit game. The two crimes do not match. There should be options.

And I do not understand, make technical fouls, free throws to why? If someone says something wrong, why not just give the point? In football if you have a custodial sentence, you do not need a field goal for 15 yards.Van Gundy takes seriously the views of kick. Others were offered in jest.
If some people behind the basket does not shock Wade diving Sunday, Van Gundy called the fans of the record: a coward! Coward two! I am so disappointed. No Joel Anthony in this group. You have to save if you get bloodied. On Sunday, the franchise [also] said James Jones is a better jump shooter than Ray Allen is open. Ray Allen would say. Jackson said: No, it wouldnt.Van Gundy then changed his mind. This would be the highlight of my idiocy, to be a commercial. sorry Ray, I family. But you and your Van Gundy is not worried about his prediction in this space last August that the heat would set the record for victories by the Bulls in a single season to break 72.

Although this proved to be as an idiot, I have not come back, he said, noting, Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller injuries took a toll. He was stupid, because the record was not important to them. Many people who have been critical to say about me, but I believe it. Maybe a team player dynasty. They have the potential. Before this series began, I thought that would win the heat five.Van Gundy loves radio, but that does not reduce the lack of coaching at some point. I do not see that in the near future.

Nene was able to choose a contract with the Denver Nuggets, a free agent

Nene, Denver Nuggets, the best big man and from mid-Chris Dempsey Denver Post said, has become the option of his contract this summer and that a free agent. The Nuggets are on the hook for $ 11,600,000 in Brazil 2011-12, but baby, you can run an option players participate in a free-agent market for a new light.
[I] t is not anything on the next contract Nene. It is an important finding that a lack of Nene said, and is proving to be just as important as dollars.

We do not know exactly what looks Nene referred to in terms of lack of recognition, but it's no secret that the center sought an extension last season in Denver, where the Nuggets were occupied elsewhere resolution Carmelo Anthony. The threat to the public  opt-out could be a continuation of the negotiations to sign in the hope of renewal, before the new collective agreement comes into force, that did Zach Randolph recently with the Memphis Grizzlies.

It is not clear, however, Denver jurisdiction, after negotiations,  Melo relatively young for a return. Nene is 28, which is certainly correct in your choice. But if the Nuggets are looking for a long term commitment is necessary to assess to what extent is Are they an execution of the act, and if Brazil would be able to help.
